I’ll post my notes from last Sundays message “Reformed” soon, but I have something even better for those of you who would like to celebrate Reformation Day. John Piper posted this biographical message about Martin Luther on the Desiring God blog here. His focus is “Luther at study”. Enjoy.

During this past weeks worship service I referenced the story of William Cowper author of “There is a Fountain”. Below you can see the video I gleaned the story from. Warning: the video is a bit bloody.
I know the doctrine of the Trinity can make you feel like your head is going to explode sometimes, so I’m trying to help with these last 3 entries as much as I can. For my students, I already know my upcoming lectures will not be enough.

Here is a message by Dr. Bruce Ware about the Trinity. He talks about why the Trinity is so important. I have often lamented that Evangelicals are willing to get upset about attacks on the Trinity, but rarely get excited about the reality of the Trinity.
Ware gets into the history behind the doctrine of the Trinity in great detail. Give this message some time. Ware will set your heart on fire as he gets increasingly passionate throughout the message. This is worth your time.
For those who owe me a paper on the Trinity here is another good article. This one was suggested to me by my sister Barbara who spends a lot of time ministering to Jehovah’s Witnesses. It is by Ron Rhodes, who is a noted apologist for the faith. (To be honest, I haven’t read the whole thing, but I trust Rhodes. I also trust Barbara!) Enjoy.
I’m up late with my baby son. He decided he felt like torturing my wife so I took a turn at being abused by our “sweet” little boy. While sitting with problem child I found an excellent blog entry on the Trinity over at Desiring God. It never hurts to brush up on your understanding of essential Christian doctrine, but especially those of you who owe me a paper on the trinity in a couple of weeks might benefit from it. It also offers some links and PDFs for further study. Go here. You also want to check out the Theopedia link that the author gives. It has a number of great audio and article links in it. Desiring God has another extended article on the trinity here.
Pastor Mark Driscoll from Mars Hill Church in Seattle just started a new series on Philippians. The series is called “the Rebels Guide to Joy”. In the intro he covers the full list of false sources of joy in our culture. He does it with an even hand, even dealing with the false sources of joy in the Christian world. About 12 minutes into the message he shows a clip of a Joel Osteen sermon and then discusses Joel’s teaching as one of the false sources of joy that people (including Christians) in our culture turn too.
Mark does a great job of pointing out how patently ridiculous Joel’s teaching on health and wealth really is if you compare what he promises to what Jesus Himself actually went through as a man. You’ve got to love Mark Driscoll. I’m glad that someone of his caliber is dealing with this guy in a frank way.
